Frequently Asked Questions About Subsidy

What is child care subsidy?

Child care subsidy is a state-funded program that helps families access child care while parents or caregivers are working or participating in education or training programs. The state provides funding to child care providers so they can continue to offer high-quality learning environments, making it easier for families to balance work, school, and caregiving.

Who must apply for child care subsidy?

Families in Arizona, Kentucky, and Washington who are likely eligible for child care subsidy under their state’s requirements are required to apply for subsidy as part of the registration and re-registration process.

When should I apply for subsidy?

Families with active subsidy at the time of application receive preference in the admissions lottery; proof of an active subsidy must be submitted by April 25 to be considered for the lottery. If your child does not attend Bezos Academy, subsidy funds may still be used with another eligible child care provider in the future.

Does receiving subsidy funding affect my child’s eligibility to attend Bezos Academy?

No. A child’s eligibility to attend Bezos Academy is not affected by whether a family qualifies for or receives child care funding.

What are common reasons a family may not be eligible for subsidy?

Each state has its own child care subsidy eligibility criteria. Common reasons a family may not qualify include: household income above state limits; not meeting work, education, or training requirements; or eligibility rules related to citizenship requirements. Families are not required to share the specific reason they are ineligible.

Subsidy programs mention a co-pay. Will I need to pay this?

No. Families enrolled at Bezos Academy who receive subsidy funds are not required to pay a co-pay. Bezos Academy covers the cost of the co-pay on behalf of families.
