Bezos Academy is Committed to Protecting Your Privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the kinds of information that we may collect, the way we may collect it, how we may use that information, and how it applies when you access or use our websites and digital portals (collectively, the “Site”) or otherwise engage with us. Your privacy is important to us, and we encourage you to read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand how we may collect and use your information.  

We Care About Consent. This Privacy Policy constitutes an agreement between you and Bezos Academy (collectively, “Bezos Academy,” “us,” “our,” or “we”) and is part of Bezos Academy’s Terms of Use. By accessing the Site, enrolling in Bezos Academy, contacting Bezos Academy, or otherwise submitting information to us, you consent to this Privacy Policy and the collection and use of information as described herein. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, you are free to withhold consent, but you may not be able to access this Site or utilize certain Bezos Academy services.  

What is Personal Information? As used in this Privacy Policy, “Personal Information” means information that identifies, relates to, describes, references, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular individual or device, such as:  

  • identifiers (e.g., name, address, telephone number, email address, IP address, and documentation to verify such information), 
  • health and medical information (e.g., immunization records, insurance information, allergies, and other information to help us ensure the health, safety, and well-being of your child), and 
  • protected classification information (e.g., race, age, and sex). 

Personal Information does not include (a) publicly available information; (b) aggregate information, meaning data about a group or category of from which individual identities or other Personal Information has been removed; or (c) deidentified information that cannot be easily linked back to the individual.  

We Use Your Personal Information to Provide Educational Services. How we use your information depends on your interactions with Bezos Academy. We collect and use Personal Information to provide educational services, to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students, families, and employees, to assist in the event of an emergency, to prepare individual care plans, student support plans, and reasonable accommodations, to comply with applicable law and regulations, to conduct internal audits of internal policies, to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of our educational services, to comply with our licensing requirements, to communicate with you, to recruit job candidates, and to maintain and improve the security and functionality of the Site. 

How We May Collect Your Personal Information. We collect Personal Information directly from you, from third parties, and automatically from your use of the Site and our services. The types of Personal Information we collect about you and the manner of collection depends on how you interact with Bezos Academy.  

When you communicate with Bezos Academy. We collect Personal Information directly from you when you contact us online, in person, or via telephone or mail, participate in one of our surveys, take a tour, or submit an inquiry at one of our locations.  

When you apply to or enroll at Bezos Academy. When you fill out one of our forms, enroll at Bezos Academy, or otherwise utilize the services we provide, we will collect Personal Information about you and/or your child directly from you.  

When your child is enrolled at Bezos Academy. Bezos Academy collects certain Personal Information about your child to provide educational services and to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of our educational services. Bezos Academy only collects Personal Information about children with consent from the child’s parent or guardian. Please note that some of the Personal Information we collect about children is required by licensing agencies to provide a safe and healthy environment for the children in our care. As such, if you refuse to provide us with certain Personal Information about your child, or later withdraw your consent for Bezos Academy to use certain Personal Information about your child, we may not be able to provide your child with educational services.  

When you interact with our service providers. Bezos Academy partners with various service providers to enhance the services we provide (each, a “Service Provider”). If you choose to interact with our Service Providers, they may collect Personal Information on our behalf. These Service Providers may have access to Personal Information needed to perform their functions and may not use it for other purposes. We prohibit our Service Providers from selling, renting, or disclosing in an unauthorized manner the Personal Information we provide, and we require all Service Providers to maintain security standards to protect your Personal Information. Our Service Providers include, but are not limited to, Avela, Brightwheel, SchoolMint, and Qualtrics.  

Automatically from your use of the Site. We use website analytics and other technologies to collect internet activity, such as IP address, session cookies, and website interaction from your use of the Site. We collect this information to maintain and improve the Site, to recruit job applicants, and to improve our services. We may combine this information with the Personal Information you provide us or merge it into aggregate information about Site visitors and traffic to analyze preferences, trends, and statistics. For example, our use of analytic tools may include Google Analytics.  

This Site Is For Parents, Not Children. This Site is designed for use by adults, not children. Bezos Academy does not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 16 who may visit our Site without first obtaining consent from parents or guardians, and we do not want to include any Personal Information about children in our databases without first obtaining consent from parents or guardians. If you are under 16, do not use or provide any information on this Site or on or through any of its features, register on the Site, or provide any Personal Information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, or any screen name or username you may use. If we learn we have collected or received Personal Information from a child under 16 without verified parent or guardian consent, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 16 without consent from a parent or guardian, or if you become aware of any unauthorized submission of information to Bezos Academy, including children’s information without consent from parents or guardians, please contact Bezos Academy at [email protected]

We Take Security Seriously. Bezos Academy employs appropriate and reasonable safeguards both online and offline to maintain the security, confidentiality, and integrity of Personal Information that we collect about you. Bezos Academy maintains operating procedures to govern the collection, processing, and handling of data, which are designed to restrict access to data to those individuals who require such access to perform their functions.  

Data Security. We use encryption to protect information online, and the systems that store your Personal Information are housed in a secure environment. Please note, however, that no transmission of data over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will not circumvent our security measures or use your Personal Information for improper purposes.  

When you register with us or a Service Provider, you may receive an account name and password. You may also receive other credentials in connection with the enrollment of your child at a Bezos Academy school. We will never ask you for log-in credentials in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email. The safety and security of your Personal Information also depends on you, and you are responsible for keeping your password confidential. Also, remember to log off your account and close your browser window when you have finished your visit.  

We Do Not Sell Personal Information. Bezos Academy does not sell Personal Information to third parties. From time to time, we may disclose Personal Information to third parties such as our licensors, emergency responders, and Service Providers to provide educational services that you have requested from us. Service Providers may have access to your Personal Information while they are performing their contractual obligations on our behalf, such as processing family applications and enrollment, sending family communications, and storing educational records. These Service Providers may have access to Personal Information needed to perform their functions and may not use it for other purposes. We prohibit our Service Providers from selling, renting, or disclosing in an unauthorized manner the Personal Information we provide, and we require all Service Providers to maintain security standards that protect your Personal Information.  

In addition, we may disclose Personal Information to third parties:  

  • if we have your consent to share the information;  
  • in an anonymized, de-identified, or aggregated state; 
  • to pass on to emergency personnel during a medical emergency; 
  • to detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; 
  • if we are required by federal, state, or local law to disclose the information or if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is necessary to comply with a civil, criminal, or regulatory inquiry, investigation, subpoena, or summons by federal, state, or local authorities; 
  • to exercise or defend legal claims; 
  • in the event that we go through a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of a portion of our assets—any Personal Information you provide us may be a part of the assets transferred.  

Choices Regarding Your Personal Information. Bezos Academy provides you the ability to exercise certain controls and choices regarding our collection, use, and sharing of your information. Subject to applicable law, your options to control your Personal Information may include:  

  • correcting, updating, and deleting the Personal Information in your account,  
  • changing your preferences for how and what about we communicate with you, 
  • requesting access to the Personal Information we hold about you and requesting that we amend or delete it. 

You may seek to exercise your legal rights, express concerns, file a complaint, or obtain additional information about the use of your Personal Information by contacting [email protected]. As stated above, certain Personal Information is integral to the educational services we provide, and your restriction of our use of such information may result in us being unable to provide your child with educational services.  

Social Media. If you access our Site from social networking websites (e.g., Facebook or LinkedIn), or if you otherwise agree to associate your account with us with a social networking website, we may also receive Personal Information about you from such social networking website. Our receipt of your Personal Information via a social networking website is governed by the terms of use and privacy policy of that website. We may retain this information with the information we collect from you directly. Our Site may include buttons that link to social networking websites. Your use of these social networks is entirely optional and subject to the privacy policy and terms of use of the social networking website you choose to use.  

Third Party Websites. This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by Bezos Academy. We may provide from our Site links to third-party websites as a service to our Site visitors, but we have no ability to control, and we are not responsible for, the privacy and data collection, use, and disclosure practices of third-party websites. When you click on links that take you to external websites, you will be subject to their privacy policies and practices and not ours. We encourage you to review and understand the privacy policies of such websites before providing them with any information.  

Consumer Health Data. You may review our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for further information on our privacy practices as it relates to certain health-related information. 

Terms of Use. Bezos Academy’s Terms of Use govern all matters not set forth in this Privacy Policy and our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with our Terms of Use.  

Changes to this Policy. As our organization and educational services change, we may update this Privacy Policy. If we make changes, we will update the date at the top of this Policy.
