Meet Milo – Part 1
Sep 19, 2025

The start of a new school year is exciting, especially as we welcome new students into our preschools. It’s also bittersweet, having said goodbye to the many children and families who have been with us over the years. Students like Milo are off to kindergarten now, but they’re a wonderful reminder of why we do the work we do each and every day. Read Part 1 of Milo’s story.
From Lauren, Milo’s mom.
“Both my partner and I work full-time, and like many working parents, we juggled jobs while trying to find the best care for our son. A friend mentioned Bezos Academy, but I didn’t get my hopes up because there was a waitlist. I applied anyway, and months later, I randomly checked my email and saw we had a spot. Milo was three.
Before that, he’d been with a family friend in home daycare. It was safe, it was loving, but there was no curriculum, no real enrichment. And he’s a brilliant kid. He needs to be challenged, stimulated. On the tour at Bezos Academy, I remember thinking: This is it. The classroom setup, the philosophy. It all just made sense. I had studied early childhood education a bit before going into corporate financial lending, so I recognized how special it was.

Academically, he’s thriving. Math is his favorite. Numbers, patterns, puzzles. He wasn’t into reading or writing at first, but he learned. He’ll start kindergarten this fall, and he’s already reading above grade level.
Bezos Academy gave him confidence. He knows all the letter sounds. He writes letters now. He asks about how things work. He reads street signs. His curiosity is wide open.
The biggest surprise was the social-emotional piece. That’s where he struggled most. Big feelings. Meltdowns. But the teachers didn’t just “manage” him. They taught him to understand himself. To pause. To take space. There’s this one teacher, Breeayn, who became his comfort person. He really learned how to cope, not just behave.
We wish we could stay longer. The communication, the community. Bezos Academy didn’t just support Milo. It supported us.”
