Yesterday, we joined our community host, Ikaika Ohana, in welcoming local leaders to celebrate the grand opening of Kaiāulu o Kūku‘ia, the first permanent affordable housing development to open in Lahaina since the 2023 wildfires. The development offers 200 housing units for families, and is home to Bezos Academy Maui – Lahaina, which will open its doors in fall 2026.

At the event, Bezos Academy president, Miguel Roque, joined Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen, and Maui County Councilmembers to celebrate the complex and participate in a blessing ceremony.

Bezos Academy Maui – Lahaina is a two-classroom school with the capacity to serve 40 children in the community. As with all Bezos Academy preschools, the classrooms will be filled with hands-on Montessori materials designed to spark a child’s interest and help them discover more about the world around them. Additionally, at Bezos Academy Maui -Lahaina, our locally hired school team is committed to ensuring their Hawaiian culture and the other cultures within the community are at the center of the school’s lessons and activities.

Applications for the 2026-27 school year will launch in early 2026. To be added to the interested family list, sign up for email notifications here.
